El Ranchito is a project of the Shield Ranch Foundation, operated by its wholly-owned affiliate Camp El Ranchito, LLC in collaboration with El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission and Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center.
EL BUEN SAMARITANO EPISCOPAL MISSION
El Buen Samaritano is a nonprofit and outreach ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas committed to helping Latino and other families lead healthy and productive lives through high-quality and affordable health, education and financial security services. Since 1987, El Buen has strengthened Central Texas families by providing learning opportunities, integrated health services and a robust food assistance program for adults and children of all ages. El Buen assists El Ranchito with camper recruitment, camper registration, and transportation support. They also serve as our in-town point of contact with El Ranchito families.
WESTCAVE OUTDOOR DISCOVERY CENTER
Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center works to inspire people to develop a lifelong practice of protecting and enjoying nature. They connect kids and their families to nature by providing experiences and programs that foster the discovery, exploration, and conservation of nature. Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center supports El Ranchito with nature curriculum and program planning, and hosts field trips and family picnics for each camp session.
THE SHIELD RANCH
The Shield Ranch, a 6,800-acre ranch in the Texas Hill Country, was established by Fred and Vera Shield in 1938. The Shield, Ayres, and Bowen families have created the Shield Ranch Foundation to operate the El Ranchito camp program. The Shield Ranch hosts the camp and the Foundation provides significant funding for camp operations.
