Who We Hire
Working at camp requires some experience working with children or youth, eagerness to be a great role model, maturity in a group setting and a desire to explore the outdoors. Each role has specific qualifications, please see the job descriptions below.
Life at Camp
El Ranchito is a residential nature camp modeling sustainability and community at the artfully designed and off-grid Campsite at Shield Ranch. Staff live in screened shelters without regular use of electronics. Our facility uses fans, shade, and breezes to stay cool. We do not have air conditioning. The desire to participant in a shared community is a must! Residency includes all meals, board and activities during staff training and the camp session. Staff have designated off and refresh time.
Health and Safety
Camper and staff health and safety are our highest priority. Staff receive training on guidelines and how to help keep everyone safe. Regarding Covid-19, we are following recommendations and information from the Centers for Disease Control, American Camp Association, the Texas Department of State Health Services, as well as our medical director and camp nurse. Modifications may occur as we follow protocols continuing to place staff and camper safety as our highest priority.

For applicants who have worked at El Ranchito within the past three years, you can use the Returning Staff Application. “Create a New Account” (even if you’re a returning staff, we are using a new application system) Returning staff receive a 10% raise their first year returning to the same role, and 5% the next years they return.
